North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Wisconsin Badgers Preview

On the season North Carolina is 20-16-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 20-14-1 and West Wisconsin is 18-17-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 16-20.

In their last games North Carolina beat Arkansas 87-78 and Wisconsin beat Oregon 72-65.

In a West Region Sweet 16 game the top seed Wisconsin Badgers are a 6-ppint betting favorite taking on the 4th seed North Carolina Tar Heels. The Badgers reached the Final 4 last season and they are led by Player of the Year candidate Frank Kaminsky, who has scored 43 points in the 2 games in the Big Dance this season and leads the team in scoring and rebounding.

The Badgers may get an extra boost in this game, as Traevon Jackson, who averaged over 9 ppg on the season and has missed the 19 games with a foot injury.

One HUGE question in this game is will Kennedy Meeks play? He is a big body at 6’9” and has averaged 11.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg this season and he was injured in the Arkansas game and is questionable for this one.

If he cannot go it will be a big blow and the Tar Heels will have a hard time matching up with the 7-foot Kaminsky.

UNC has not been to the Final 4 since they won the title back in 2009.

Wisconsin is riding an 8-game winning streak.

UNC has won 5 of their last 6 games with their lone loss coming against Notre Dame, who are also in the Sweet 16, in the ACC title game.

Wisconsin has a solid defense and they need to play good all around D, as the 2 leading scorers for the Tar Heels are G Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson. Meeks is the team’s 3rd leading scorer and if he can go he and Johnson give the Tar Heels a solid front line.

The Badgers are led by the FW duo of Kaminsky and Sam Dekker (13.3 ppg) and it is key that Wisconsin shoots the rock well from outside so that UNC does not pack the paint to stop these guys.

Both of these teams ended up ranked in the top 25 at the end of the season and on the season Wisconsin is 2-2 facing ranked teams and UNC is 7-7.

UNC played great defense in their win over Arkansas in their last game holding the Razorbacks to 36.9% shooting.

This one is a tough call since it is up in the air if Meeks will play. Still, I think he will go and even though the Badgers will get the W the Tar Heels will give them a close game and they will at least cover the spread.
