Kansas vs. Texas NCAA Basketball Preview & Free Pick

NCAA Basketball Matchup: KU vs Texas

Many thought the Kansas Jayhawks would have be in rebuilding mode this year, but Bill Self and Thomas Robinson had other ideas. The Jayhawks are coming off a blowout victory of Baylor earlier this week.

Texas is not an easy team to beat in Austin. Can Kansas keep their momentum going on the road or will they get hooked by the Longhorns?

Thomas Robinson has been the best player in the country so far this year. Robinson is averaging 17.8 points and 12.3 boards per contest. He has picked up a double-double in five of the team’s last six games. Robinson is a complete low post presence who is a great team player. Tyshawn Taylor is the senior leader on the perimeter. Taylor averages 16.2 points per game, and he is knocking down 45% of his three-point attempts this year. Travis Releford is one of those guys who just scraps around and puts up bigger numbers than you realize, and he is vital to this team. Jeff Withey is a very good shot blocker and he gives the team solid minutes at the center spot. Kansas is eighth in the nation in field goal percentage defense.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Texas is just 12-6 on the season, but they are 12-0 at home. J’Covan Brown is a great leader in the backcourt for this Longhorns team. Brown is averaging 19.2 points per game, and he is a good distributor of the basketball as well. Texas does lack an inside presence that can score consistently, and that has hurt them in several close games already this year. The team has several guys who can get on the glass down low, but no one is an established low post scorer. This team has trouble winning when they are not at their best defensively. They have given up at least 77 points in all six of their losses.

Texas hasn’t lost at home this year, but they also haven’t really had any big wins on their home floor. I think Kansas wins this one.

Prediction: Kansas 72 Texas 66
