The Bulldogs currently sit 5-0 in WCC play and in a tie for first place with St. Mary’s. Just one game behind the two is the 4-1 Waves, who look to put an end to a 26 game losing streak against Gonzaga.

Gonzaga

With their only loss of the season coming to then #3 Arizona in overtime, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have ran off 9 straight wins and look to continue that streak into 10.

Along with their current active winning streak, the Bulldogs also have a current 26 game winning streak vs Pepperdine on the line Thursday. Gonzaga knocked off Pepperdine 83-68 last time the two teams met.

Gonzaga is one of the most offensively sound teams in the NCAA. Ranking 9th in scoring (82.6 PPG), Gonzaga’s lowest point total this season was 60 back on December 29th. Along with their 82.6 points a game, Gonzaga is shooting a red hot 52.8 percent from the field this season.

Leading the way for Gonzaga is Junior F Kyle Wiltjer. Wiltjer is scoring 16.4 points a game to go along with 5.1 rebounds. Wiltjer is coming off a 16 point, 6 rebound performance in the Gonzaga’s win over Santa Clara.

Gonzaga is also getting major contributions from Senior G Kevin Pangos.

Pangos, who scores 12.5 points a game, is the not just scoring as of late, he is also racking up the assists. Averaging 4.9 a game, Pangos has 25 assists combined in his 5 games.

Pepperdine

The Waves are not only well improved in the WCC, they are off to their best conference start since 2001. Sitting in 2nd with a 4-1 WCC record, Pepperdine has ran off 3 straight victories.

Pepperdine is causing major problems for opponents defensively and will need to do the same Thursday and slow down the high scoring Gonzaga offense. Pepperdine has held the opposition in their last 6 games to just 58 points a game and a 39 percent shooting percentage from the field. On the season, Pepperdine allows 61.0 points a game.

Leading the the way for the Waves is Junior G Stacy Davis. Davis (15.7 PPG) is the leading scorer and is also averaging 7.7 rebounds a game to lead the team. Stacy has scored 21, 23, and 18 points in the Waves last 3 games.

Pepperdine will need to focus on slowing down Bulldogs 7-1 C Przemek Karnowski. Karnowski is averring 18.3 points over his last 3 contests. If Pepperdine can slow the big man down, they’ll have a chance at an upset on Thursday.
