Loyola Marymount finally got back in the win column last time out as they knocked off Portland 80-68. Gonzaga comes in holding the top spot in the WCC, while the Lions sit in the cellar.

Gonzaga

The #3 ranked team in nation may have gotten a wake up call, a scare, or whatever you want to call it on Thursday night.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs survived a scare in Pepperdine as they escaped with a 78-76 victory over the Waves. This marked the 10th straight win for Gonzaga, but it was anything but easy.

Kyle Wiltjer dropped 19 points in the 2nd half and led the Bulldogs to a their 27th straight win over Pepperdine. While the #3 team in the nation was nearly upset on Thursday, that wasn’t the biggest headline of the night. The Bulldogs arrived just 25 minutes before schedule tipoff due to a traffic accident in Los Angeles. Regardless of the problems, Gonzaga came away with a big WCC win.

As they turn their attention to Loyola Marymount, the Bulldogs will hope to continue their dominance in conference play. Gonzaga leads the WCC with a 6-0 record. They’ll need to avoid a look ahead game as they have to deal with St. Mary’s, who is tied with them for the WCC lead, following their contest with Loyola Marymount.

Gonzaga will look to use 7 footer Przemek Karnowski to control the offensive glass on Saturday. Loyola is one of the worst teams in the WCC at allowing offensive rebounds this season. The Lions allow 10.7 offensive rebounds a game.

Loyola Marymount

The Lions finally got back in the win column last time out as they knocked off Portland 80-68 on their home floor. It was their first victory in WCC play, but still leaves them tied for last place in the conference. The Lions finally got contributions from multiple players on the same name in the victory.

Leading the way for Loyola Marymount was Senior G Ayodeji Egbeyemi. Egbeyemi scored 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the win. Along with the Senior G, Junior F Marin Mornar recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Both Egbeyemi and Mornar surprised their averaged season totals. If Loyola Marymount has any hope of pulling off the home WCC victory on Saturday, they’ll most certainly need performances from both players.

Loyola Marymount hasn’t been all that bad at home this season as they’ve gone 4-5 S.U. However, in those 9 home contests the Lions have gone just 2-7 ATS.

NCAA Basketball Trends:

  • Bulldogs are 20-6-2 ATS in their last 28 games following a ATS loss.
  • Bulldogs are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. West Coast.
  • Lions are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
  • Lions are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 home games.

Free 4* NCAA Basketball Pick: Gonzaga -19

Even though this could be a look ahead spot for the Bulldogs, Gonzaga is just simply on a different level than Loyola Marymount.

Gonzaga 88, Loyola Marymount 60

The Bulldogs should have no problem racing out to a giant lead early and route the Lions on their own home floor.
