UNC is in that group so we should be in for a good game on our first Saturday without college football.

North Carolina

Expectations are high in Chapel Hill this season.

The Tar Heels have been sputtering a little bit over the last few seasons but coming into this one they were expected to challenge for the ACC and even National Titles.

8 games in we have seen a team that has been inconsistent.

Their losses were unexpected but they were to quality teams and they force you to reconsider the potential of this unit and whether they could put it together for a big time run. If they win this one it will change a lot of people’s minds.

The Tar Heels are 20th in scoring but the production of Marcus Paige is down – he is averaging just 14ppg.

He has been terrible shooting the ball but UNC is going to need him big time because it won’t be easy for their inside people to operate against all of that Kentucky size.

Kennedy Meeks and Brice Johnson are no wallflowers but the Cats frontline is going to make them feel small. They need to play big and smart to give North Carolina a chance.

Kentucky

Columbia was beating this Kentucky team for more than a half this week.

The fact that it was more than half a minute should be very concerning for Wildcats fans. I love plucky underdogs but this Kentucky team is stacked and it was alarming how lethargic and out of sink the patient Lions made them look.

At some point offensive rebounding is not going to be good enough when they face teams that can take care of the glass like North Carolina can. It is possible they were looking ahead.

Nobody plays a lot of minutes for UK so nobody puts up big numbers.

However, it is hard not to be impressed with Willie Cauley-Stein who leads the team in scoring rebounding and steals. He is one of several bigs that make it near impossible to score in close and he can harass guys on the perimeter too.

Speaking of the perimeter any time the Harrison twins want to show up would be great.

They have not played well despite the team’s success.

NCAAB Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 7-3 in UNC last 10 overall.
  • Under is 10-1 in UK last 11 overall.
  • Under is 10-1 in UK last 11 non-conference games.
  • Under is 21-5-1 in UK last 27 home games.
  • UNC are 9-1-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

NCAAB Prediction:  Kentucky -12

The Tar Heels will establish a faster pace that suits the Wildcats just fine.

4* FREE NCAAB Score prediction:  Kentucky 74 – North Carolina 60

Look for Kentucky to smother them up front and win this one without being challenged much at all.
