Oregon State has only one double-digit scorer, Calvin Haynes (who is averaging 15.2 ppg), so it has been a difficult time finding people who coach Craig Robinson can depend on. It would make sense that Robinson, who brought a “Princeton” style of deliberate offense to Corvallis, something he played under with Pete Carill and later coached at Brown, was going to take a while to get the kind of personnel he needed to make the system work. After a brief run where they won four games in a row, the Beavers have cooled off, with losses to Arizona, Arizona State and Washington, where they scored a total of 151 points, and a 54-52 win over Washington State, which is just as offensively challenged, as it turns out.

During that four-game run Oregon State went to Palo Alto and scored a 77-62 win over Stanford. Haynes scored 25 points, which was his career high, and Seth Tarver and Roeland Schaftenaar combined for 37 points. In an offensive display that was rare, OSU shot 62% from the field and committed just 12 turnovers. The Beavers are not that generous with the ball (only 13.3 turnovers/game), and Stanford is not impenetrable on defense. In fact, outside of Oregon, they are probably the most permissive defensive team in the Pac-10, allowing 47.6% from the field.

Stanford, which has lost its last five road games, is experienced and plays at a fast pace. But they are smallish, and Oregon State not only may have a shot to compete on the boards but should also be able to slow things down when they want and get Stanford out of rhythm. We like Oregon State getting 3.5 points at home in the Sportsbook.

Our PLAY: OREGON STATE +3.5 **
