Wisconsin has been shooting poorly of late, hitting only 35.6% against Illinois, coming off two other very cold shooting games in the last 16 days, against Minnesota and Purdue. The Badgers are taking care of the ball once again, as they are committing just 10.3 turnovers a contest. In other areas they are not doing so well, particularly on defense, where they are not awful but at the same time not choking opposing offenses either (43%).

Purdue had Wisconsin’s number last season, winning both meetings and limiting the Badgers to 61.5 points a game. That doesn’t include the January 11 meeting, when Wisconsin shot just 37.5% and forced only four Boilermaker turnovers. Trevon Hughes and Marcus Landry, Wisconsin’s two best offensive players, combined for just 6-for-26 shooting from the field.

That kind of performance is due in no small measure to the presence of defensive stopper Chris Kramer in the Purdue lineup. He and Robbie Hummel, who had 16 points in 28 minutes in the earlier meeting, are vital cogs in the scheme of things with the B-Makers, and both are nursing injuries right now – Hummel has back spasms, while Kramer is working through a sprained right foot. There is no getting around the fact that it is going to be painful, but those players, along with guard Keaton Grant, who has a shoulder injury, will play.

Those guys are not going to be 100%, and Bo Ryan is not the kind of coach who is going to allow his Badgers to stay down for very long. Remember that Wisconsin has won eight of the last nine meetings against Purdue in Madison. We will take advantage of the short number and go with Wisconsin, the one-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA basketball betting odds.
