The Connecticut Huskies are continuing their hot March play with wins in their first two tournament games.
The first over the unfamiliar Bucknell Bison and the second over the very familiar Cincinnati Bearcats. Both games were easy covers and both went under the total. Against Cincy it was once again guard Kemba Walker leading the way with 33 points, almost half the team’s total. He has proven time and again that he can lead his team to victory but it would be nice for some others to step up.
You have to wonder just how long he can keep it up. I thought UConn would be a team to to fade as they have played so many games the past two weeks.
Now that they are past that they should be able to continue to put forth great effort and will be a very tough out in this one.
Considering their high seeding the San Diego State Aztecs have not been very impressive. Even though they have covered in both they haven’t looked sharp, especially on the weekend when they needed two overtimes to dispatch an overrated Temple Owl squad. Still, I want to give them some benefit of the doubt as this school had never even won a tournament game before this season. They might have been a little anxious with such high expectations placed upon them. 
Assuming they have gotten over themselves I like this matchup with the Huskies. This team has some size to compete on the interior with the Huskies and they also have a guard who can not only defend Walker, but can make him work on the defensive end as well in DJ Gay. And I haven’t even mentioned double-double threat Kawhi Leonard, who the Huskies don’t have a great counter to.
If SDSU plays like they can they should win.
Prediction: There have been a lot of great games thus far and I think this could be the best one yet. I am looking for a roller coaster ride with Connecticut having a chance to win late but coming up just short.
SDSU continues dream season.
