Texas Longhorns vs. Texas A&M Aggies Preview

Texas A&M (17-3) has lost 2 of their last 3 games and tonight they host a Texas (18-3) squad that is in first place in the Big 12 and has yet to lose a conference game. NCAAB lines have Texas as slight 1.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 129.

In their last games both teams played on Saturday, but with different results with Texas beating a top 20 Missouri team 71-58 while Texas A&M lost to Nebraska 57-48.

These 2 teams met on January 19th at Texas and the Longhorns laid a beat-down on the Aggies in that game 81-60.

This season Texas has been one of the best betting teams in the nation at 13-3 ATS while Texas A&M has been decent at 7-4-1 ATS. In the last 8 games at Texas A&M the Aggies have covered the spread every time and they have covered the spread in 4 of their last 5 games against the Longhorns.

Both teams have great defenses ranking in the top 20 in opponents’ points scored and in the Longhorns 6-game losing streak at Texas A&M they have struggled to score and have only averaged 37.4% shooting.

Texas is a tough and physical team that ranks 6th in the nation in rebounds per game. In the game a couple weeks back against the Aggies the Longhorns out-rebounded A&M and shot lights out shooting 58% from the field. Their shooting will be key tonight and G/F Jordan Hamilton (19 ppg 7.6 rpg), who had 27 points against the Aggies in the first meeting this season, has to score and get some easy buckets in the paint.

The Texas F duo of Tristan Thompson (12.9 ppg) and Gary Johnson (11.8 ppg) are solid scorers, but the 4th leading scorer for the Longhorns in Cory Joseph (11.2 ppg) is key tonight, as he has to knock down the outside J so the Aggies do not pack the lane on defense.

Aggies’ F Khris Middleton (15.7 ppg) and F David Loubeau (10.7 ppg) have to play well and lead A&M on offense. Overall the Aggies have to shoot the rock better than they did in their Saturday loss to Nebraska where they shot under 40% from the field and only 24% in the 2nd half. They also had 14 turnovers in the game and they have to hold onto the rock tonight.

Hook’em Horns! Texas will snap their 6-game losing streak at Texas A&M, as they will dominate the glass and get a lot of inside scoring. Texas will win this game and cover the 1.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Texas is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60% and Texas A&M is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.

Pick: Texas -1.5
