The No. 19 Washington Huskies will travel to Eugene in hopes of doing a little Duck hunting at the Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies will look to avoid a team-high third straight loss, after dropping two straight road games to fall into a second-place tie with UCLA. Washington has scored 68.0 points per game in those two contests -and shot 34.7 percent from the field. That is 17.2 points less than their league-best average. But it’s not only offense the Huskies need to be concerned about; there are also some real problems at the other end of the floor.

It showed in the loss to Washington State on Sunday where the Huskies surrendered a   season-high point total allowing the Cougars to shot nearly 50 percent. What ensued was another disappointing performance losing 68-56 to Oregon State on Thursday.

Junior guard Isaiah Thomas averages team bests of 16.7 points and 5.8 assists, but he too has struggled in the previous two contests, shooting five of 24 in that span and committing a career-high seven turnovers in each contest.

However, Thomas has fared well against Oregon, averaging 21.2 points in five career matchups. He led the Huskies to an 87-69 home win over the Ducks back on Jan. 6 in a game where he also hauled in six boards while dishing out nine assists.

The Ducks meanwhile have won four of six in the Pacific-10 Conference after soaring to  a 7-1 start before losing four of five at home with only win at the induction of the Matthew Knight Arena against USC.

More recently, Oregon has won their second game at the new arena, thumping Washington State 69-43.

The last time Oregon and Washington met. The Ducks hung close for a half and even took a short-lived one-point lead to begin the second, but then the Huskies went on a run en route an 87-69 victory. Freshman Terrence Ross led the Washington onslaught with a game-high 25 points. Oregon’s top scorer was Joevan Catron with 20 while Garrett Sim chipped in with 13.

Matt’s Free Pick: Overall Oregon is 9-5 at home while Washington is 3-4 on the road. If Oregon can slow the pace, they just may have a shot at taking this one at home, or at least keep this one close. I’ll take Oregon plus the points.
