If asked just a week ago if Iowa State had any chance of beating then-No.3 Texas at home, the answer would have been…you’re kidding right?

But the Longhorns have proven they’re just as vulnerable as any other team in the NCAA, as they were upset by the Cornhuskers, 70-67 in conference action on Saturday in Lincoln. Albeit the Cyclones are no Nebraska, but they do have just four less wins than the Huskers with victories over Iowa, Virginia, and Baylor while falling to then-No.2 Kansas by just five points at home back on Jan 12.

However, since their single win versus conference foe Baylor, Iowa State has dropped nine in a row falling to last place in the conference.

The Cyclones dropped their last bout with No. 20 Missouri on Saturday at home, 76-70 in Big 12 play. They had already seen the Tigers this year and had lost to them 87-54, so this was no real surprise. Missouri created too many possession changes, with a total of 26 defensive rebounds while beating the Cyclones at the charity stripe with 19 points. Darion Anderson, who now has three straight double-digit point games, led the Cyclones with 17 points in 37 minutes while Calvin Godfrey added a game-leading 10 rebounds. Leading scorer Diante Garrett was held to 12 points, going 6-for-11 in the loss.

It was the ninth double-digit assist game of Garrett’s career, and he will need an encore performance and then some, if the Cyclones are to have any chance of beating the Longhorns who will be a testy bunch after being derailed by Nebraska.

Texas kept it close from the beginning, up 33-26 at halftime, but the second half was awful and the Huskers took advantage pulling away at the end.

The Cornhuskers outshot the Horns 47 to 36 percent from the field, as their defense stifled Texas’ normal offensive punch. However, leading scorer Jordan Hamilton and J`Covan Brown found a way to put up 18 points each in the effort and Gary Johnson helped out with a game-high nine rebounds as Nebraska outworked the Horns on the glass.

CBB Betting Trends:

IAST are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 vs. Big 12.

Under is 8-1 in TEX last 9 vs. Big 12.
TEX are 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 Tue. games.

Matt’s Free Pick: Texas–Even though the Longhorns looked awful against the Huskers, I think emotion and a push from the home crowd should be enough to propel Texas back into the win column.
