The ACC Tournament has arrived. Everybody is dreaming of upsetting favorites North Carolina or Duke, but they’ll have to get through the first-round first. On Thursday, Wake Forest faces Boston College.

After stumbling through a good portion of the ACC schedule, fifth-seeded Boston College (19-11, 14-10 ATS) righted the ship at the end of the season, winning its last three games. The Eagles also played well against the spread, going 6-2 ATS in their last eight outings. The most telling win came in the final game of the regular season, when the Eagles toppled Wake Forest 84-68; B.C. failed to cover as a 16.5-point favorite.

The recent winning streak was marked by blowout victories, with an average margin of victory of 16.6 points. That includes a nice 64-44 romp at Virginia, which was coming off a big upset victory over Duke.

Wake Forest (8-23, 8-16-2 ATS), meanwhile, has struggled mightily all season. The Demon Deacons have lost 10 consecutive games and have just a single victory in their past 20 outings. Despite getting blown out regularly, the Deacons have shown some life on the spread, going 2-1 ATS in their past three games—but compared to the full season, that can hardly be considered a trend. The Eagles absolutely lit up Wake Forest in their recent meeting, shooting 58 percent from the floor. Though they may not be quite as hot from beyond the three-point line (12-22), it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Eagles go off like that again.

Wake Forest actually shot pretty well, making 50 percent of its shots from the field. That’s not an especially tough feat when you’re getting blown out, however, as the other team tends to relax on defense. Either way, the Deacons need a big game from Travis McKie, who has a shot to lead the team in scoring and rebounding. McKie has scored 20-plus points in three of his last five games, and Wake Forest will need at least the much against Boston College.

Even so, Wake Forest’s only hope is covering—it has no chance of winning outright. But B.C. looks like a pretty safe bet to cover, too, considering the roll it’s on.

Trends:

WFRST are 5-18 ATS in their last 23 Thu. games.
BC are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
BC are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Atlantic Coast.
BC are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Thu. games.
Favorite is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

Pick: Take Boston College to continue the blowout streak and advance to the next round.
