Can it get any worse for the Toronto Raptors? Suppose so, but it’s hard to see how.

The dinosaurs are in the midst of tidy little 12-game losing streak, and the hard times have locals recalling the heady days when Toronto was an expansion franchise and there was actually a good reason for the L’s far outweighing the W’s.

It’s not easy losing a dozen times in a row in today’s NBA, where teams slog through the middle of winter on long road trips and can’t always summon enough motivation to play back-to-backs. But the Raptors have figured it out.

Yes, Orlando and Miami accounted for a few of the losses, but the Raptors also have figured out ways to come out on the losing end to such NBA titans as the 76ers, Bucks, Pacers, Grizzlies, Wizards and Pistons. Losing to all those teams in the same month is the equivalent of the starting out with an ace in blackjack 6 times in a row, and busting each time. It can happen, but shouldn’t.

Fact is, the Raptors are the team no one wants to lose to because of the embarrassment of having to watch yourself destroyed in ESPN and Twitter. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

No one is playing well for Toronto, but the most fingers (and not always the index) are being pointed squarely at Andrea Bargnani, who reluctantly became the face of the franchise after Chris Bosh escaped to Miami. Bargnani is scoring more, but is in the midst of an horrendous 17-for-62 shooting slump, and the big fella just can’t get a rebound to save his life. As a result, the Raptors struggle of the boards. And, of course, the defense really sucks, too.

None of the above does much for the job security of coach Jay Triano, who is finding is harder and harder to find positives in a season that has been so efficiently flushed down the toilet. It’s not all his fault and it’s not all Bargnani’s fault, but pro sports in a zero sum business, and the final 30-plus games of the season could determine the future of the coach and a lot of the players on the roster.

THE PICK: Toronto’s porous defense and Atlanta’s improved shooting point toward an over play here. The Hawks seem to have recovered somewhat from that bizarre 100-59 loss at home to New Orleans in a game in which Atlanta shot 29 percent from the floor. They’re at 51. And 46.9 the last two games, and that should produce more than its share of points against the Raptors.
