Oklahoma City, the chic pre-season pick to make it out of the Western Conference playoffs, for some reason has not been able to step up its game this season. After going 50-32 last year and being knocked out by the Lakers in Round 1, they are now on a pace to go 50-32 again, which should be enough to snag the 4 seed. But can the Thunder go deep into the playoffs? Probably not.

The Thunder have talent at the top of the rotation (Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook), but they go only 8 deep, and the bottom six (Jeff Green, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, Nenad Krstic and Thabo Sefolosha) too often expose OKC as just not talented enough to compete with the NBA elite. The Thunder have put together a couple of 5-game winning streaks this season, but each time they gain momentum, they can’t keep things going when they face a decent opponent.

San Antonio (46-10) has a chance to pretty much salt away the No. 1 seed in the next week and a half. After tonight the Spurs have New Jersey, a home-and-home with the Grizzlies, and a trip to Cleveland. If SA moves to 51-10 they can spend the entire month of March trimming minutes for the big guns and getting everyone primed for the playoffs.

NBA Trends:

Over is 14-5 in OKC last 19 Wed. games.
Under is 15-3 in SA last 18 home games.
Under is 15-5-1 in SA last 21 vs. NBA Northwest.
Under is 9-3 in SA last 12 vs. Western Conference.
Road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
Over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings.

BEST BET: Everyone’s legs are fresh after time off for the All-Star Game, so the Over (206) looks easily attainable.
