Don’t you think the offseason had to grate on the Orlando Magic?
The Heat sucked all the oxygen out of the air for three months, while the Magic could only stew about their 6-game playoff loss to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals last spring. It was as if the 59 gvames they won last season somehow didn’t matter, and that the Magic – as young and talented as they are – were being treated like yesterday’s newspaper.
Well, the Magic now get their chance to remind everyone that they are still viable. Dwight Howard has not gone anywhere, Jameer Nelson is still a plus at the point, J.J. Redick is smarter and ready for a solid season, and Vince Carter is out to prove that he isn’t the dog that he showed in the Celtics series.
Rashard Lewis also has a chance to prove that last year was an aberration.
The TNT audience will also get its first look at Washington rook John Wall, who in the wake of the Gilbert Arenas mess last season couldn’t have come along at a better time for the Wizards.
Arenas remain on the roster onl because of his bloated contract, and the team has made it clear that Wall is now and for the next decade will be the man in D.C., Arenas or no Arenas.
Betting Trends:
The total has gone UNDER in 15 of Washington’s last 20 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Washington’s last 10 games when playing Orlando
Orlando is 12-2 SU in its last 14 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Washington’s last 6 games when playing on the road against Orlando
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Washington’s last 5 games
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Orlando’s last 6 games when playing at home against Washington
Orlando is 16-4 SU in its last 20 games
Orlando is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Washington
Best parlay bet: Thirteen and change is way way way too much to lay. Washington will be trying to get things going to energize its dispirited fan base, and while there aren’t enough arrows in the quiver to win this one, grab the points. Package it with the Suns-Jazz under for a parlay play. Phoenix is not the offensive juggernaut it was with Amare Stoudemire, an d the Suns may spend most of the season trying to find their way.
