Before sports betting fans turn their attention to the pigskin this weekend, we have the NBA on TNT tonight. The Wizards have a tough test trying to stop the surging Celtics, even at home, while Orlando visits Utah for an intriguing cross-conference battle.

Boston Celtics @ Washington Wizards
Tonight, 8:05 p.m. ET

Sportsbook favorite: Celtics -7.5

The Celtics are officially on “one of those runs” again, having won eight straight games. They continue to embody the team concept, as no Celtic averages more than Paul Pierce’s 18.4 points per game. Tonight’s matchup in Washington seems like a cinch but bettors should at least stop and think for a moment. Ray Allen is really looking long in the tooth, seeing his scoring slip to 15.5 points per game and, more alarmingly, shooting just 33 per cent from three-point range. The majority of Boston’s winning streak has consisted of bullying the weak – Charlotte, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, New York and so on.

In theory, the Wiz could give the Celtics minor hoops betting trouble on their home court, but let’s face it – Washington is just one more weak team for Boston to pound. The Celtics are the NBA’s best defensive team and shouldn’t have trouble stopping the Wizards, who rank 22nd in offense.

Pick: Celtics -7.5

Orlando Magic @ Utah Jazz
Tonight, 10:35 p.m. ET

Sportsbook favorite: Magic -2.5

Like Chargers Cowboys odds, the Magic/Jazz matchup promises to be an exciting, close game and that gives bettors headaches. On one hand, the Jazz are always tough to play in Utah’s noisy EnergySolutions Arena and have won five straight games at home. Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams are playing their hearts out, earning whispers that they’re a poor man’s Malone and Stockton.

On the other hand, the Magic are just too darned good. They’ve won eight straight road games and romped when they visited Utah last season – with Dwight Howard injured. Now that D12 is in the lineup, it’s tough to bet against Orlando. Also, it’s a rough week schedule-wise for Utah, who battled the Spurs Monday and the Lakers last night. Go with the fresher, better team.

Pick: Magic -2.5
