It may take some getting used to. For decades the Clippers have been the NBA’s best punch line, a guaranteed trip to the Secaucus lottery, a team to play when things aren’t going good and you need a win to get straightened out, a team to play when stats needed a bit of padding.

The Paper Clips. Now the Clippers, who would be a legitimate candidate for the worst pro franchise in sports history, are turning things upside down.

They’ve actually won five of their last six games, and they head into Portland Thursday night with a chance to out some heat on Golden State and Phoenix in the Pacific Division. And with the West down a bit, the Clippers can start musing a bit about making the playoffs without fear of getting laughed halfway to San Diego. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Such is the influence of Blake Griffin, who landed in Clipperland two years ago after the Clippers had one of their all-too-frequent lousy seasons and then got lucky in the lottery. Griffin’s assortment of dunks has made him a YouTube/ESPN sensation, but the kid showed that he has plenty of steak to go with the sizzle – he dropped an NBA season-high 47 on the helpless Pacers a few nights ago, and also found time to take down 14 rebounds. His motor runs constantly.

LA’s recent run has been spiced by where-the-hell-did-that-come-from? wins over the Heat b(yes, they had the Big Three) and Lakers. If that’s not startling enough, try this on for size: Point guard Baron Davis is actually producing.

Davis was so bad early in the season that he was getting heckled during games whacko Clippers owner Donald Sterling, but Davis of late has become a decent distributor and has been scoring in the mid-teens. At minimum he is no longer a liability.

Betting Trends:

LAC are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 vs. NBA Northwest.
Over is 7-3-1 in LAC last 11 vs. NBA Northwest.
LAC are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Thu. games.
Under is 9-4-1 in POR last 14 vs. NBA Pacific.
Over is 6-0-2 in the last 8 meetings in Portland.

Best bets: The Trail Blazers are starting to figure out what life without Brandon Roy (surgery on both knees) is all about. Portland is holding out hope that Roy will be back this season after having both knees cleaned out, and in the meantime the offense will revolve around the inside game of LaMarcus Aldridge.

Aldridge has averaged 29 a game in three consecutive Blazer wins – over New Jersey, Minnesota and Sacramento. None of those three has anything resembling the tornado that is Blake Griffin, however, and the Clippers are no longer road pushovers. LA +3 is the pick there.

In the opener of the TNT doubleheader, look for the Bulls (-3.5) to bounce back big from a loss to Charlotte with a big win over reeling Dallas.
