CELTICS vs. BUCKS

Time: Saturday 8:30 ET
Venue: Bradley Center, Milwaukee
Spread: Bucks -2
Over/Under: 190

Expectations have been scaled back to dwarf proporations in Boston, where the fandom has come to realize over the past few months that even with three future Hall of Famers on the rotation, there will not be another championship to celebrate. In fact, there is open speculation now that the odds of even getting out of the first round of the playoffs are pretty much 50-50.

What ails the Celtics? Age? Injuries? Lack of motivation? A toxic mixture of all three? Whatever the reason, Boston has lost 6 of its last 8 as its heads into tonight’s matchup in Milwaukee against a solid Bucks team. It’s a battle of two teams that could meet in the first round.

The capper on what has been a smelly season may have been applied Friday night in Boston when the Celtics were blown out on their home court by a Wizards team that basically was rebuilt shortly after the All-Star break. Using a lineup of guys who will have trouble earning jobs in the league next season, Washington had a 30-point lead at one point, was up by 21 at the half and basically humiliated the Celtics.

The fans have seen it before – Boston is just 24-16 on its home court this season. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

After 79 games it’s pretty clear that whatever ails the Celtics can’t be fixed in the final three games (Boston finishes with back-to-backs Tuesday at Chicago and Wednesday at home against the Bucks). The Celtics are hoping against hope that once playoff time comes around next weekend that Kevin Garnett can get his defensive dominance back, Paul Pierce can again create shots and get to the rim, and Ray Allen will rain 3-pointers.

Not likely to happen.

Betting Trends:

The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Boston’s last 15 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Boston’s last 6 games when playing on the road against Milwaukee
Milwaukee is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Boston
Milwaukee is 12-2 SU in its last 14 games at home
Milwaukee is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games when playing at home against Boston
Milwaukee is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games at home
Boston is 7-2 SU in its last 9 games when playing Milwaukee

BEST BET: Milwaukee is a surprising 4-0 since emerging center Andrew Bogut was lost for the season on April 3, but three of the wins came against mediocre opponents – Chicago, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Still, the Bucks have gotten a taste of the NBA good life and don’t appear to have the slightest interest in returning to its previous status as just another Rust Belt punching bag. Giving 2 tonight to a Celtics team that appears to be idly filing its nails and waiting for the playoffs to start seems like a bit of a gift. Boston’s Kendrick Perkins is too limited offensively to take advantage of Bogut’s replacement, Kurt Thomas. Bucks laying 2 looks solid, and parlay players might also sample the over as Milwaukee figures to push the ball and try to tire out Boston’s weary bigs.
