ATS Matchup Insight | CappersPicks Insider Preview

The Grizzlies are finally starting to put things together, and will ride a four-game winning streak into this contest, their first winning streak of the season. Most recent in that streak is an 88-81 overtime win over Golden State.

Limiting Golden State’s dynamic offense to just 81 points in 53 minutes of basketball should tell you all you need to know about the form of the Memphis defense at the moment.

The team held the Warriors to 43.9 percent shooting from the field. Even more impressive, they limited the Warriors to 5-of-18 shooting from three, a clip of just 27.8 percent, and surrendered only eight free throw attempts.

The team’s big three all had good games, with Zach Randolph, Mike Conley, and Marc Gasol scoring 21, 19, and 18 points respectively. Randolph and Gasol each had double-doubles, while Conley chipped in four assists and six rebounds.

San Antonio’s last game saw the team have a little more trouble with Boston than what might expect, but they did come away with a 104-93 win. Point guard Tony Parker continued his efficient play, hitting on better than half of his shots from the field as he led the team with 19 points.

Center Tiago Splitter had another quiet but effective performance, hitting on all four of his shots from the field as he completed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, the Spurs shot 48.1 percent from the field.

The San Antonio defense has been a big part of their recent success. On the year, the team is surrendering just 89.6 points per game, good for third in the Association. They had a bit of an off night against Boston though, surrendering 93 points and allowing the Celtics to hit on 45.3 percent of their shots from the field.

It’s tough to go against a good Grizzlies team that does all of the little things right, but the Spurs are just playing too well right now.

San Antonio is firing on all cylinders at the moment, and it wouldn’t be right to fade them. Questioning Gregg Popovich’s motivations night in and night out is fair, particularly considering the fact that San Antonio has a home game against Cleveland on Saturday, but the Spurs simply haven’t played enough basketball over the last week for that to be an issue on this night.

The Spurs are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between these teams, and 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to Memphis.

The play: San Antonio -1.5
