After opening the season with an eight-game winning streak, the Lakers have slumped, suffering a losing streak both straight up and against the spread. Can the red-hot Milwaukee Bucks prolong the agony on Tuesday night?

Milwaukee (5-5, 5-5 ATS) has ripped off three consecutive wins, including a 79-72 victory over Golden State on Saturday (the team failed to cover as a 7.5-point favorite). As usual, the Bucks got a sterling effort on defense—they lead the NBA at just 89.4 points allowed per game. Undoubtedly, Andrew Bogut is the key. The center has bounced back well from last season’s gruesome arm injury, and that was no more apparent than Saturday night; Bogut dominated the Warriors with 17 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

At the other end of the floor, the Bucks are struggling to put points on the board. They rank just 28th in scoring this season and couldn’t muster much against Golden State. John Salmons led the way with a season-high 26 points, well above his disappointing season average of 12.7. Brandon Jennings added 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Perhaps more importantly, the second-year guard is showing signs of an improving shot. Last year, Jennings hit just 37 percent of his field goals. Over his last four games, though, Jennings is up to 44 percent. That would certainly give a much-needed boost to the offense. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The Lakers (8-2, 5-5 ATS) have dropped back-to-back games, including a 121-116 defeat to Phoenix on Sunday. They’ve also lost three straight against the spread. The biggest problem has been defense. Los Angeles isn’t great to begin with, allowing 103 points per game, but the Lakers have allowed nearly 120 per game during the two losses. It didn’t help that Phoenix had a brilliant night shooting the ball; the Suns hit 22 three-pointers, the second-most ever in an NBA game.

Considering the Lakers are the second-best rebounding team in the NBA, you’d think they’d be a little better on “D.” They’re not entirely at fault for the Suns’ hot shooting, but something has to be done. Perhaps more size up front will make a positive ripple effect, but injured big man Andrew Bynum isn’t expected back until at least Thanksgiving.

The offense, however, is still taking care of business. Los Angeles is averaging a league-best 112 points per game. Unsurprisingly, Kobe Bryant or Pau Gasol usually top L.A.’s box score on a nightly basis. Even in the past two losses, the Lakers averaged 114 points.

It’s hard to imagine Kobe Bryant allowing the Lakers to suffer a third straight loss. The Bucks are heating up, but they don’t have the weapons to take advantage of L.A.’s soft defense. Kobe and Co. will find a way to put plenty of points on the board, and Milwaukee will struggle to keep up. The Lakers should run away with this one.
