The Portland Trail Blazers have clawed their way back into their first-round series with the Dallas Mavericks after winning 97-92 on Thursday. The teams collide again on Saturday’s NBA odds, with Dallas leading 2-1.

The Jason Kidd party is over in Dallas. The Mavericks grabbed a 2-0 series lead as Kidd shocked the world; though he averaged just 7.9 points per game during the season, the veteran scored 24 and 18 points over the first two playoff games, not to mention only one turnover. Kidd was his usual self on Thursday, scoring just eight points while racking up five of Dallas’ 16 turnovers.

With Kidd struggling, Dallas looked a lot more like many observers expected—a team with two legitimate scorers (Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry) and nobody else. Nowitzki scored 25 points while Terry racked up 29, but no other Maverick managed to score in double figures. To make matters worse, Nowitzki isn’t his sharpest; after shooting a career-high 51.7 percent during the regular season, he’s hitting just 41.2 percent of his shots in three games against Portland.

Portland showed much more energy in Thursday’s win than it had in the first two games, and the club can be expected to keep it up with a second straight game at the Rose Garden.

The Blazers are one of the deepest teams in the NBA, but they hadn’t had an explosive performance by anyone than LaMarcus Aldridge in the first two losses. Finally, somebody else came through. Wesley Matthews opened the game absolutely on fire, burying four three-point shots in the first eight minutes. The guard finished with a team-high 25 points. Aldridge delivered another fine performance, scoring 20 points. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Perhaps most importantly, Portland finally got something meaningful from Brandon Roy. Roy criticized the team after going 2-for-8 and scoring just two points in Games 1 and 2. He apologized afterwards and enjoyed a fine Game 3, racking up 16 points and four assists. It was the most points he’s scored since March 15.

Both teams did exactly what was expected from the very start—Dallas struggled to get scoring from its role players, and the Blazers overwhelmed with a deep attack. Expect Saturday’s game to follow the same script.
