NBA Wednesday Night Free Pick – Lakers vs. Hornets

Boy the Lakers made it tough last night! For sports betting fans it doesn’t get any closer than that! I truly believed the Lakers were going to cover the 6 ½ points and they did by beating the Dallas Mavericks by 7 at the end but they needed point-guard Derek Fischer to sink two free throws in the final 10 seconds, and the Mavericks to fumble the ball out of bounds going down the court, for the Lakers to secure the win against the BetUS Sportsbook wagering spread.

That’s cutting it awfully close. The Lakers now must travel to New Orleans to take on a Hornets team that hasn’t played a game since Sunday. The Hornets should be rested and ready for the 6 and 0 straight-up and 5 and 1 against the spread Los Angeles Lakers.

How good are the Hornets? They are 4 and 2 on the season and appear improved from last season’s terrific team. The additions of Morris Peterson at guard and James Posey at the forward position has made the Hornets a squad to reckon with this year. I see them doing some great things this season, but sometimes getting such a huge rest between games isn’t a good thing. The Hornets could be rusty in this game which would make them a bad online betting option.

Here are the BetUS online NBA betting odds for this game:

Los Angeles Lakers + 1 ½ – 110 Ev O 194 ½ – 110
New Orleans Hornets – 1 ½ – 110 – 120 U 194 ½ – 110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:

The Los Angeles Lakers are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games versus a team from the NBA Southwest Division.
The Over is 5 and 2 in the Los Angeles Lakers last 7 games overall.
The New Orleans Hornets are 25-9-1 against the spread in their last 35 games at home.
The Over is 12 and 4 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.

The Lakers haven’t allowed an opponent to score over 100 points in six straight games. That’s a pretty terrific feat but I believe that the streak ends tonight.

The Hornets are a very good team. They’ve been averaging close to 98 points a game. I believe they crack the 100 point barrier for the simple fact that the Lakers really had to put it all on the line last night against the Mavericks.

Usually, I would struggle picking a good online bet in this game, but I believe that the BetUS over is the way to go. 194 ½ points still says that both teams need to score around 97. I don’t see that as a problem as the Lakers defense should be slower tonight and the Hornets should be able to run a bit.

Wednesday NBA Free Prediction:

I see this game going over the total of 194 ½ points.
