Orlando Magic vs. Utah Jazz

The Magic (15-7) did not get off to a good start to their 4-game road trip with a loss in Portland last night and it gets no easier for them tonight facing the Jazz (16-7), who are coming off a loss, but are 8-2 in their last 10 games.

In their last games the Magic lost to the Portland Trailblazers 90-80 on Thursday night and the Jazz lost big to the Miami Heat 111-98 on Wednesday night.

The Magic have lost 3 straight games and even though they are still in 1st place in the Southeast Division they only lead both Miami and Atlanta by ½ game.

Generally Utah is one of the toughest places for visitors to play, but this season they have already lost 5 games at Energy Solutions Arena while they lost 9 there all of last season. Star PG Deron Williams recently stated, “If you would have told me before the season that we would be a better road team than a home team, I would have laughed at you.” The Jazz could really use a win in this game, which is the last game of a 6-game home stand, as they play 7 of 9 games on the road to end 2010.

The Jazz have to play better D than they did in their last game against Miami, as they allowed the Heat to shoot 51.3% from the floor and there were also out-rebounded 42-28.

Utah also has to hit the glass, especially worrying about Dwight Howard, who ranks 3rd in the league in rebounds per game and he is averaging nearly 3 offensive boards per game. Utah is one of only a few teams in the league that is averaging fewer than 40 rebounds per game. The responsibility on the glass falls on the Utah frontcourt of Al Jefferson (8.9 rpg) and Paul Millsap (8.2 rpg).

The Jazz will have to deal with an Orlando D, which is giving up the fewest points per game (90.8 ppg). NBA Betting

In the Magic’s 3-game losing streak their offense has struggled only averaging 80.7 ppg on 40.5% shooting. In their loss last night to the Blazers they only shot 42.3% from the floor and 27.3% from beyond the 3-point arc. Howard had a great game going for 39 points on 13/20 shooting, but the 3 other scorers of Rashard Lewis, Jameer Nelson, and Vince Carter only combined for 27 points on 10/36 shooting. Against Portland they also committed 16 turnovers and they have to take care of the rock better tonight.

The Magic may be looking for a little payback in this game, as the Jazz beat them at home earlier this season on November 10th 104-94.

The Magic backcourt has to contain Jazz PG Deron Williams, who leads Utah in scoring (21.8 ppg) and assists (10 assists per game). Howard also has a tall task, as does not have much help inside and the duo of Millsap and Jefferson are averaging just under a combined 35 ppg.

The Magic may play better tonight, as Jameer Nelson, Howard, and Mickael Pietrus are getting healthy. For the Jazz they are a little banged up and C Mehmet Okur is Out.

Heading into this non-conference match up the Jazz are 13-9-1 ATS and the Magic are 8-13 ATS.

The Jazz will play good D tonight and that will only add to the Magic’s shooting woes. Just like last night Howard will have a good game, but the Jazz will win and cover the spread. Also, since the Magic are not a high scoring team and each is a good defensive team the total will go Under tonight.

Betting Trends

Orlando is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games playing on 0 days rest, and have an Under record in 4 of their last 5 games.
Utah is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games against teams with a winning road record, and has an Under record of 8-2 in their last 10 road games.

Pick: Jazz -2 and the Under
