The Atlanta Hawks continue to grow as an NBA playoff and championship contender, but before they full grow up, they’ll have to find a way to top the reigning Eastern Conference Champions.

The Hawks have faced the Orlando Magic three times this year and they have been blown out each time. Their average margin of defeat has been a whopping 22 points per game, which doesn’t leave their fans optimistic about their chances should they meet the Magic in the postseason.

A win on Wednesday could change their moods, though, if the Hawks can finally earn a win against Orlando.

What’s  Happening With The Magic

By all accounts, the decision to swap out Hedo Turkoglu for Vince Carter has been a shrewd one. While Turkoglu is struggling mightily in Toronto, Carter has been the key spark plug to the Magic’s recent resurgence.

Carter has scored 20 or more in five of his last eight games and it’s no coincidence that the Magic have won 11 of their last 12.

Overall, this is just a team that is really coming together around Carter – believe it or not. When he was struggling a bit earlier in the season, so were the Magic but now with him rejuvenated, they are once again a dangerous team.

What’s  Happening With The Hawks

The Hawks are picking up the pace too recently as they are now used to being a playoff team and making a run at this time of year. Ever since Al Horford arrived, the Hawks have been in the playoff each year.

Horford is coming off a huge game against the San Antonio Spurs, collecting 22 points and 18 rebounds in a big overtime win on Monday.

Every game is important for the Hawks as they want to avoid the dreaded No. 4 seed in the East. The team that is in fourth will likely have to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in round No. 2 whereas the Orlando Magic would probably be the better option, even though the Hawks don’t fare well against them.

The Hawks are healthy, but now they have to show they can play with the big boys.

Outlook & Pick

Fresh off their first win in eight tries against the Spurs, expect the Hawks to be filled with confidence. They have been throttled by the Magic in three meetings this year but they’ll keep this one very close and eke out a win.

Pick: Atlanta
