The Spurs dominated the Mavericks in a 93-71 home victory back on Jan. 5, but this time will be without Manu Ginobili and T.J. Ford when they roll into the Big D.
Not good for a San Antonio team that despite being a dominant 10-1 at home this season, is a different team on the road, going just 2-7 away from AT&T Center, including an 87-79 loss at Minnesota. on Friday
The Spurs (12-8) leading scorer, Tony Parker once again turned in a prime performance with 20-points, but didn’t get much help as partner in crime Tim Duncan struggled, shooting just 2 for 12 from the floor and finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Parker kept the Spurs close in the fourth, dropping seven of his team-high 20 points in the final frame.
That defense has come and gone lately, with San Antonio, and now they will face their toughest challenge, containing the Mavs’ Dirk Nowitzki, who despite missing the last four games due to knee and conditioning issues, is still averaging a decent 17.5 points per game.
The Spurs held Nowitzki to six points in their last meeting.
Nevertheless, the Mavericks seem to be on a roll. Winners of four of the last five – including three of four. Dallas can take over first place in the Southwest with a win on Sunday.
San Antonio has taken four straight and eight of 10 in the series.
Free Pick: Mavericks 102, Spurs 94– The Mavs have been winning games even without Dirk. They have plenty of big men – Mahinmi, Odom and Haywood. Combine that with the Spurs’ terrible road record– and that spells WIN for Dallas.
