The New Orleans Hornets’ dominant January run is a distant memory as March arrives. Entering their matchup with Toronto Raptors tonight, they’re 3-7 over their last 10 games. The Hornets have been a poor bet recently as well, going 3-11 ATS over their last 14 games.

The Hornets do a great job keeping opponents off the board, allowing 92.6 points per game, but these guys can’t score. They’re third in defense but 27th in scoring at just 94.7 points per contest. New Orleans has hit the century mark just once in its last 12 games.

Sooner or later, some blame has to fall on Chris Paul, doesn’t it? I know he was an All-Star this season but the truth is that he’s having his worst campaign in years. His current scoring mark of 16.1 points per game ties his 2005-06 rookie season as his lowest career number; he’s averaging his fewest assists since 2006-07; he’s averaging a career-low 3.9 rebounds per game; and his shooting percentage is its lowest since 2006-07. 2010-11 could well be Paul’s poorest effort as a pro.

With their star not playing his best ball right now, are the Hornets vulnerable on the road at Toronto? Hard to say. The Raps have shown offensive flair here and there, especially through Andrea Bargnani’s underrated scoring contributions (22 points per game). But they’ve still lost four of five and have been blown out by 13 or more points in three of their last four.

The betting trends favor the Hornets more than the Raptors. New Orleans is 5-1 ATS over its last six trips to Toronto. The road team has beaten the spread 16 times in the last 21 meetings between these two teams. And the Raps don’t respond well to underdog status; they’re 3-11 ATS over their last 14 games as a dog.

The stingy Hornets only really have to worry about Bargnani tonight. They last time they faced Toronto, they held Bargnani to 11 points en route to an 85-81 victory. New Orleans can probably do something similar tonight.

Trends:

NO are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
NO are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 vs. NBA Atlantic.
NO are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games.
Under is 12-3 in TOR last 15 vs. NBA Southwest.
TOR are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
Over is 24-9 in TOR last 33 Tue. games.
Road team is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings.
Underdog is 12-4 ATS in the last 16 meetings.

Prediction: Hornets 99, Raptors 92
