New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Preview
In an Eastern Conference match up between a couple of teams that recently made HUGE deals the Cleveland Cavaliers (10-47) host the New York Knicks (29-26).
In their last games both teams played last night with the Knicks beating the Milwaukee Bucks 114-108 and the Cavs losing to the Houston Rockets 124-119.
Cleveland not only has been a bad team this season, but they have also been a bad bet going 22-33-2 ATS. On the other side of the coin the Knicks have been a good team to lay some green on going 33-20-2 ATS.
Obviously the big news is that New York finally landed All Star Carmelo Anthony and he did not disappoint in his first game in a Knicks’ uniform scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 boards in the win over Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
Cleveland also made a deal that sent Mo Williams and Jamario Moon to the Clippers in exchange for PG Baron Davis and the Clippers’ 2011 first-round draft pick. Don’t know why the Cavs would do this, as Davis does not play well when he is not happy and how can he be happy playing for a Cleveland team that has the worst record in the NBA? A GM who had past dealings with Davis even stated, “Baron won’t be happy.” Davis should be in uniform for this game.
This is not a good match up for the Cavs, as they only rank 29th in the league in opponents’ points allowed and 25th in scoring while the Knicks are the 2nd highest scoring team in the league. For Cleveland to have any chance in this game they cannot allow Melo (27 ppg) and Amare Stoudamire (26 ppg) to have huge scoring games.
Melo and Stoudamire are also averaging a combined 18.5 rpg and that is not good for a Cavs’ squad that ranks 26th in the league in rebounds per game.
The one thing the Cavs have going for them is that the Knicks are not good on D ranking 28th in the league in opponents’ points allowed. Cleveland will likely have to light up the scoreboard to win and that responsibility falls on Antawn Jamison (17.9 ppg) and Daniel Gibson, Ramon Sessions, and J.J. Hickson, who are all averaging around 12 ppg.
The Knicks will score a lot of points in this game and while the Cavs will as well I do not think the game will be close, as New York will win this game and cover the spread.
Betting Trends
New York is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against teams with a losing S.U. record and Cleveland is 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 home games against teams with a losing road record.
