The buzz was all about Carmelo Anthony, but did the New York Knicks make the stealth deal of the season when Chauncey Billups was included in the trade that brought Anthony to the Big Apple?

Billups has already won one game for New York, beating Miami with a late-game in-your-face 3-pointer, and could be invaluable down the stretch as the Knicks careen toward their first playoff berth since – at least it seems – the Truman Administration. Billups is averaging more than 23 points a game through four with the Knicks despite in just 32 minutes, and has made everyone in New York forget about Raymond Felton.      Billups played a near-perfect game in the Knicks’ loss at Orlando Wednesday night, scoring 30 points and getting to the foul line 20 times (he made 18). He also shot 4 for 9 from 3-point range, and had 6 assists and 6 rebounds. If it takes three stars to win an NBA championship, you could make a decent argument that the Knicks have them.

Like the Knicks, the Hornets are pretty much a playoff lock but will probably spend most of the rest of the season jockeying for position with the likes of Portland, Memphis and Denver, all of whom will be hoping to avoid a first-round matchup with the Lakers or Spurs. Any of them would gladly take a 6 seed right now, no questions asked.

This is the second game of a 5-game road trip for the Hornets, who have been ok (14-18) away from home this season and have picked up the nasty habit of not being able to put away weak teams – in the last few weeks they have lost to Golden State, Houston and Toronto.

 NBA Trends:

NO are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
NO are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games.
NO are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 vs. NBA Atlantic.
Under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in New York.
Road team is 10-4 ATS in the last 14 meetings.

Best bets: In New York, the Knicks should be able to cover 2.5 pretty easily against the Hornets, who have lost 5 of their last 7.
