NBA odds: Struggling Knicks chasing third win of the year over Atlanta

Team records:
Atlanta: 40-22 SU, 36-26 ATS
New York: 21-41 SU, 28-34 ATS

The Knicks are suffering through a terrible run, but they’ve already beat the Hawks twice this year. Can New York make it three straight on NBA odds when the Hawks visit the Knicks?

Matchup: Hawks vs Knicks
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Madison Square Garden
Spread: Hawks -6
Over/Under: 211.5

Saturday’s 113-93 loss to the Nets extended a terrible run for the Knicks (21-41, 28-34 ATS). Loser of two straight, New York is in the midst of a 2-12 run. The team has at least managed to play .500 basketball on NBA odds, going 5-5 in its past 10 games against the spread. Playing at home is another story, however; the Knicks have covered just three times in their last 10 games at Madison Square Garden.

David Lee is doing everything he can to keep the Knicks afloat, but it’s simply not enough. The young center is averaging 20.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game on the year, and he’s led New York in scoring over the past two games. Lee has also posted 18 rebounds in two of his last three outings, but he needs more help. Defense is where the real problems are, however. The Knicks are allowing 105.0 points per game and they’ve held an opponent under triple digits just once in the last 14 games. During that stretch they’ve allowed 112.2 points per game.Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Atlanta (40-22, 36-26 ATS) has won four of five, though it dropped its most recent outing 100-94 against the Miami Heat. The Hawks had been one of the league’s better teams in NBA betting this season, but they’ve hit a very rough patch, going 3-7 in their last 10 games against the point spread. Atlanta isn’t much of a road warrior, either, going 4-6 in its past 10 games away from home.

The Hawks rank eighth in the NBA at 102.2 points per game and have a number of players who contribute regularly; in fact, Atlanta has had a different leading scorer in four of the last five games. Joe Johnson leads the way with 21.5 per game, although Jamal Crawford has been excellent off the bench, averaging 17.4 points per night. Al Horford is off to a nice start in March, averaging 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in four games.

The Knicks have won two of their three meetings with Atlanta this season (2-1 against the spread). Impressively, both wins came in Atlanta, the most recent on New Year’s Day.

Hawks vs. Knicks Free PICK

New York has proved its more than capable of beating Atlanta, but that’s before the nightmarish losing streak came along. The Knicks can’t stop anybody right now and the Hawks’ well-rounded offense is sure to do some damage. Bet on Atlanta to get the job done.
