Did Al Jefferson do something in a previous life to deserve this?

He was a good soldier on a young and crappy Celtics team for several years before being the main chip in the Kevin Garnett deal. Exile to Minnesota brought only more defeats, but being traded to Utah at least put Big Al in a winning situation. So much for being part of a winning team. Jeff now is the centerpiece on what figures to be yet another franchise that has to start from the ground up. Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jeff Hornacek and Deron Williams don’t live here anymore. Big stars head for the big cities, medium-sized stars (like Jefferson) play for the Houstons and Milwaukees and Utahs.

Someday whatever remains of the Jazz fan base might look back on what might be a decent trade. Jefferson and Derrick Favors could one day make up two-thirds of a nasty front line. Pick up a shooting guard in the draft, and get by at the point with Devin Harris until another Stockton or DWill comes along, and they may be in the hunt.

But tonight against the Celtics, Jefferson can only look around, sigh and wonder why he is always drawing the short straw. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Utah’s problems were on full display Saturday night in Detroit, where the Jazz gave up 120 points to a Pistons that is falling apart at the seams. Detroit scored 37 points in the final period in a game that must have made former coach Jerry Sloan cringe. Utah allowed the Pistons to shoot 65 percent from 3-point territory and dealt the Jazz one of their worst defeats on the season.

Any good will and/or momentum that was accumulated by Friday victory at Indiana was quickly flushed down the toilet.

Boston, meanwhile, will be spending the final 25 games of the season integrating newcomers Nenad Krstic and Jeff Green into the rotation, and the defensively-disorganized Jazz provide a perfect opportunity to do just that.

NBA Trends:

UTA are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
Over is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings.
Over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Utah.

Best bets: Boston is still figuring out things with Nenad Krstic as the starting center, but he and Jeff Green will give the Celts an energy boost as they try to hang on and snag best record and home court in the East. They should cover 4 in Utah.
