Fans in Boston have soured on the Celtics, who have sleep-walked through the second half of the season.
The number of things wrong with the team (Kevin Garnett’s knee, the bench’s struggles, Rasheed Wallace’s crappy attitude, the overall aging of the core players) far exceeds those that aren’t (basically PG Rajon Rondo).
If the key players (Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen) have been dogging it and can turn it on now, the Celtics may have a few bullets left in the chamber.
Boston swept the season series against the Heat (3-0), but Miami ended the year on a protect-the-women-and-children 18-4 run, and will have the best player on the court any time Dwyane Wade is not getting rest.
Wade went off on the Hawks in last year’s opening round and nearly took Atlanta down before Miami ran out of gas.
But Boston has been somewhat effective against him by forcing the ball out of his hands as much as possible.

No Eastern Conference playoff team had a worse home record (24-17) than the Celtics this season, and hunch bettors might be tempted to take a flyer on the Heat because of that. But the Celts have proven they can win on the road, and splitting the first two at Boston wouldn’t be a dagger.
