Here’s a quick quiz:

(a) How many NBA teams have a pointspread record as good as Orlando’s?

(b) How many teams have a road record against the number as good as Orlando’s?
The answers are (a) just one – the Cleveland Cavaliers, and (b) only two – the Cavs and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This Orlando club is a force to be reckoned with. If you would have

said that the Boston Celtics would have a 30-9 record on January 13 and have the third best record in the East, one might believe Cleveland could be one of the teams ahead of them, and perhaps Detroit, but I don’t know if the Magic would have been mentioned. Yet here they are, bidding for home court advantage, not just in the conference, but throughout the whole league, and touting a star who is one of hottest MVP candidates in Dwight Howard (20.1 ppg, 13.8 rpg), who shared player of the week honors with Kobe Bryant and has pulled down 59 rebounds in the last four games.

Hedo Turkoglu has scored at least 20 points in four straight games, and has shot seven for eight from beyond the three-point arc over the last two wins over Spurs and Hawks. Guard Jameer Nelson had nine assists without a turnover against Atlanta on Friday. In that game, backup center Marcin Gortat had 12 rebounds in less than 21 minutes. This team has covered 15 of its last 18 games, and has won 13 of 15, so this is legitimately one of the hottest teams there is.

So isn’t it interesting that they go up against a team that has so thoroughly dominated the Magic on their own home floor? The Kings have beaten Orlando in 12 of the last 13 meetings at ARCO, but the last time they played there was a little over a year ago. This is a slightly different Sacramento crew, playing in a way that is a little unsure of itself and very inconsistent, although the Kings have been competitive in their last three games, losing at Chicago by five, dropping a four-point decision at home to Miami, and beating Dallas. They couldn’t do very much at Orlando on November 1, losing 121-103 and allowing 55% shooting.

Sacramento isn’t strong enough defensively, as it yields 47% from the field, and Orlando has been bombarding its opponents with threes (thirty in the last two games!). We’re laying the points with the Magic, the 7.5-point favorite in the Sportsbook NBA pro basketball betting odds.
