The Trail Blazers will try to put Wednesday’s overtime loss to the Lakers behind them as they continue their four-game home stand Friday against Denver. In a matchup of teams separated by only one game in the tight Western Conference standings.

The Blazers loss to Los Angles was disappointing as they usually play well at the Rose Garden.

Portland led 87-80 with 4:23 remaining but missed its final seven shots of regulation play while Kobe Bryant scored 37 points to lift the Lakers to victory, ending the Blazers’ six-game win streak.

LaMarcus Aldridge, who is averaging 33.2 points over his last six games, scored 29 points and had 14 rebounds for the Blazers, but it wasn’t enough.

The Trail Blazers hope a new addition can keep them going strong toward the postseason and hope to have new acquisition Gerald Wallace in the lineup Friday to help complement Aldridge.

The Blazers obtained Wallace, who averaged 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds in 48 games with Charlotte this season, before the trade deadline Thursday for center Joel Przybilla, reserve forward Dante Cunningham and center Sean Marks. It will be decided on Friday if Portland did enough to help their chances at a successful postseason run.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets haven’t slowed down one bit without Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups, who were finally dealt to the Knicks, ending months of  speculation and rumors.

Denver, who are a half-game ahead of Portland in the Northwest Division race, now have one of the deepest benches in the NBA after acquiring Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton and Timofey Mozgov in the trade with New York.

The new-look Nuggets have won both games since their swap, including knocking off Eastern Conference-leading Boston 89-75 on Thursday.

Newcomer Chandler led the assault, scoring 16 off the bench and hit a late 3-pointer to put Denver ahead for good.

Kenyon Martin led all scorers with 18 points, despite playing with the flu as the Nuggies held Boston to 39.0 percent shooting and closed the game with a 16-0 run to put away the Celtics.

The home team has won the last six meetings in this series, including an 86-83 win for Portland on Nov. 18. The Nuggets returned the favor beating the Blazers, 95-77 on Dec. 28 in Denver.

Recent Trends:
Over is 8-2 in DEN last 10 road games.
DEN are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 Fri. games.
Favorite is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
Home team is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Denver-While Portland may be better at the Rose Garden, how can you bet against a Denver team that is coming off a 14-point win over Boston? The Denver Nuggets can now breathe a sigh of relief and look towards their future now that the “Melo-drama” is over.
