L.A. Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings Preview
The Lakers (56-25) snapped their 5-game losing streak last night and they look to wrap up the 2nd seed in the Western Conference tonight facing a Kings (24-57) team that may be playing their last game ever in Sacto with the team likely moving south next season.
In their last games the Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs 102-93 and the Kings lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-112.
Neither team has been a good one to lay some green on this season with the Lakers at 38-42-1 ATS and the Kings at 37-42-2 ATS. The Lakers have covered the spread in their last 4 games facing the Kings in Sacramento.
This season the Kings are 11-29 at home and the Lakers are 26-14 on the road. There’s no place like home does not apply to the Kings, who have a better road record this season.
The Lakers’ win over the Spurs may have been a costly one since Andrew Bynum went down with yet another knee injury, but in this game the loss of Kings G Tyreke Evans, who sat out the Oklahoma City game, may hurt more. The Kings have been playing well since he came back from an injury, but he is questionable for this game with an ankle injury.
In the win over the Spurs the Lakers got back on track and with the #2 seed in their sights Kobe and company will be focused in tonight’s game. With Evans a question mark for this game the Kings will need good scoring games from Marcus Thornton (12.5 ppg) DeMarcus Cousins (14.2 ppg), and Beno Udrih (13.8 ppg). Thornton may be the key, as he has scored 21 points in his last 2 games and if he struggles the Kings may get killed.
Both teams are legit on the boards, but the Lakers, even without Bynum, have Pau Gasol (18.8 ppg 10.2 rpg) and Lamar Odom (14.3 ppg 8.7 rpg) in the paint and these guys will be tough for the Kings to contain. You know Kobe will get his points, but if the other Lakers’ can score they will easily win.
The Lakers have won 2 of their 3 games against the Kings this season, but even though the Kings lost the last one they were beat at home by 12 points by L.A. earlier this season.
The Lakers are obviously a better team and since they have something to play for they will come out and play well in this game. Without Evans the Kings do not have a chance and the Kings will lose badly in their last game at home, as the Lakers will cover the spread.
