NBA Basketball Sports Betting – New York Knicks at Memphis Grizzlies

The New York Knicks (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS) are coming off a disappointing shooting effort last night. On Wednesday night they will try to get things going in a more positive direction against the Memphis Grizzlies (3-5 SU, 5-3 ATS) in an NBA game that is slated to get underway at 8 PM ET at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, TN.

Also….

O.J. Mayo’s start in the NBA would thus far have to be considered a success. The rookie guard out of USC has averaged 21 points a game, as well as five rebounds and 1.4 steals. He’s played almost 40 minutes per contest. And he’s hit 44% from three-point range, which is a pleasant surprise. Of course, you don’t want Mayo trying to make plays for anyone but himself, as his ratio of assists to turnovers is poor (2.4-to-2.9). But he’s been extra hot, scoring 64 points over the last two games.

The other significant rookie addition, Pau Gasol’s brother Marc, has not been doing too badly, with averages of 10.8 points and 8.3 rebounds. The Grizzlies are trying to slow things down just a bit and bring a more defensive mindset to the table, as that was one reason coach Marc Iavaroni went out and brought assistant Kevin O’Neill on board. So far it has been evident, as Memphis is allowing just 42% shooting on the part of its opponents. Now all they’ll have to do is shoot better themselves and distribute it with more effectiveness. When, as a team, you have basically a one-to-one assist-turnover ratio, you are not going to win a lot of games.

The Knicks are traveling from a 92-80 loss in San Antonio, where the Spurs held them to 38% from the floor on Tuesday night. They have to get their running game going and be able to make shots from the perimeter. But they don’t play defense (49% shooting allowed) and are at a minus-8 in rebounding ratio. That’s deadly. And that’s why we’ll lay the points with the Grizzlies, the 4.5-point favorite in the BetUS NBA pro basketball sports betting odds.
