Nevertheless, the Bobcats will aim to end their franchise-record losing streak, which has no reached an embarrassing 18 games in route to an ugly 7-54 overall record.

Meanwhile, Memphis (37-25) clinched a playoff spot for the second straight season after defeating the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday, sitting comfortably in fifth place in the Western Conference.

Much of the team’s success has come from the play of forward Rudy Gay who missed the Grizzlies’ spectacular playoff run last season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

This season Gay is tearing up the hardwood, leading the Cats’ with 19.1 PPG and has scored 24 or more points in six of the last eight games, including a 26-point effort against New Orleans.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Memphis and Charlotte are meeting for the only time this season, with the two splitting a pair of contests last season. Memphis is 22-9 when Gay scores 20 or more points, not good for a Charlotte team that needs to win at least one of its final five games to avoid having the worst winning percentage in NBA history.

Making matters worse, the Bobcats have lost 11 consecutive home games and is just 4-26 at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Their offense is non-existent and it just keeps getting worse as they shot a season-low percentage from the field in each of its last two games including going just 29.8 percent losing 100-68 to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

That pushes the Cat’s to nine game they have now lost by 30 or more points.

Free Pick: Memphis- The Bobcats are last in the NBA in scoring (87.2) and field-goal percentage (41.4). Memphis on the other hand is scoring 95 PPG and are only allowing a 7th best 93.4 PPG. If Gay goes off for one of his 20-plus performances here, I just don’t see any possible way for Charlotte to win this one.
