Team records:
Phoenix: 54-28 SU, 48-32-2 ATS
L.A.: 57-25 SU, 34-46-2 ATS

Eastern Conference championship in hand, the Celtics are sitting back this weekend, hoping that the Suns win tonight and praying for an exhausting 4-overtime Game 7 on Monday in Los Angeles.

Matchup: SUNS vs. LAKERS

Time: Saturday 9:00 ET
Venue: US Airways Center, Phoenix
Spread: Suns -1.5
Over/Under: 216

And the West certainly has the look and feel of a 7-game series. Game 5 was down to the wire, but none of the first four were all that close, and the visiting team has yet to win a game. Steve Nash predicts a Game 6 victory in the desert, which would make for a wild series finale.

First things first.

The No. 1 priority for Nash and the Suns is to find a way to stop the Lakers’ offense, which seems to somehow, some way find a way to get the job done when the game in on the line.

LA has now won two huge games on last-second hoops – one to knock off the Thunder in a wild opening series on a Pau Gasol hoop, and Game 5 in LA against the Suns when Ron Artest was in the right place at the right time.

Suns coach Alvin Gentry still hasn’t properly explained why he took out shot blocker Amar’e Stoudemire in the finals seconds of Game 6, other than to say that he wanted more defense on the perimeter for what would surely be a shot by Kobe Bryant before the buzzer.

Not having a big in at the time allowed Artest to maneuver for the game-winner.

But that was then and this is now, and Phoenix wasted a game for the ages from Nash (29 points, 11 assists), who refused to miss a shot in the fourth quarter.

You have to wonder how much energy the Suns expended by battling back in Game 6, especially after picking itself off the mat following losses in Games 1 and 2.

The Lakers have their own problems dealing with Phoenix’s frustrating zone defense, which has forced LA – not among the league’s best 3-point teams this past season – into taking more shots from behind the arc than they’re comfortable with.

The Lakers were 7 for 24 from 3-point range in Game 6.

Lakers vs. Suns Game 6 Free NBA Prediction

This is a home-court series and the NBA absolutely loves series that go the full 7 games, so the play here is Phoenix -1.5.

Fans will be jacked and pumped more than Pete Carroll for a USC home opener. Stoudemire is a different player at home than on the road, and he certainly doesn’t want to wet his pants in what could be his final game before hitting the free agent market.

Totals players are no doubt aware that the teams have been scoring less since Game 1 ridiculous 136-point number, but I love the OVER in this one. LA’s defense doesn’t dig in as much on the road.

The refs – Greg Willard, Bill Kennedy and Scott Foster – give no edge to either team.
