Team records:
Phoenix: 54-28 SU, 48-32-2 ATS
L.A.: 57-25 SU, 34-46-2 ATS

Phil Jackson looks like the most interesting man in the world from the beer commercials, and no doubt believes he’s the smartest man in the world if not perhaps the most interesting.

Matchup: CELTICS vs. LAKERS

Time: Tuesday 9:00 ET
Venue: Staples Center, Los Angeles
Spread: Lakers -6.5
Over/Under: 188.5

Well, Jackson and his players have to think of something real quick before being blasted into summer by an aging Celtics team that itself should itself vacationing right now.

Like his second-best player, Pau Gasol, Jackson has grown smaller as the series has grown older.

He has demeaned the Celtics by saying “I don’t like my team to play that way,” he has resorted to ridicule in the huddle to motivate his players (“This team has lost more fourth-quarter leads than anyone in the league,” he said during Game 5) and his offensive strategy when things got tough – give the ball to Kobe Bryant and get out of the way — was stolen from his Bulls-Michael Jordan days.

The Celtics organization has never thought highly of Jackson, whose smugness gives the impression of a guy who was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.

The feeling in Boston is that his players like him because he never makes things too uncomfortable for the stars, at the same time massaging the egos of non-stars.

Boston feels that the Lakers are a little bit better than the teams with one dominant player (Miami, Orlando, Cleveland), and the Celtics have always felt that they can take care of business against teams that don’t have multiple scoring threats.

It’s why Boston can struggle against the athletic Hawks and still is able to put the hammer down defensively against LeBron James.

Everything lines up tonight for the Lakers.

Home after a brutal 7 days in the cold Northeast, no more mean fans yelling nasty things at them, Jack Nicholson in the front row and an NBA commissioner who would really, really like it if there was a gold mine-like revenue-producing Game 7.

If Jackson can’t get the job done under these circumstances, maybe the Zen master needs a Zen refill.

Like playoff teams themselves, the officials rotation has been slimmed down for The Finals, and three of the same faces we’ve seen for the last month – Joe DeRosa, Ken Mauer and Monty McCutcheon – will work Tuesday night.

DeRosa, you may recall, was the ref who was suspended for tossing the ball at a fan at halftime during a Celtics-Magic playoff game in Orlando.

It should be noted that stats on DeRosa and McCutcheon show that they tend to favor home favorites; Mauer not so much. The line (Lakers -6.5) hasn’t moved a tick since opening there, but the total (188.5) is actually up a point as bettors perhaps figure that the string of unders will end in the more free-wheeling Staples Center.

Strange things happen in Game 6s (ask the 2002 Sacramento Kings).

Expect a parade of Lakers to the line and an LA cover, producing a winner-take-all Game 7 on Thursday.

Was simply wondering if it may be feasible for a fan to win a championship ring alongside his team. A fan like Jack Nicholson. Your thoughts?
