NBA Playoffs odds – Portland Trailblazers at Phoenix Suns, Game 2 preview
Team records:
Portland: 50-32 SU, 45-35-2 ATS
Phoenix: 54-28 SU, 48-32-2 ATS
The Portland Trailblazers surprised just about everyone last weekend when they beat the Suns 105-100 in Game 1 of their NBA Playoffs series. Portland found a way to win despite playing without Brandon Roy, who will miss the series with a knee injury.
Matchup: Trailblazers at Suns
Time: Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET
Venue: US Airways Center
Spread: Suns -8.5
Over/Under: 204.5
Game 2 gets underway Tuesday evening, with the Suns favored by 8.5 points.
Portland has won five of its last seven games dating back to the regular season. The Blazers have delivered at the sportsbook; they covered against Phoenix in Game 1 and are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games.
Another road game certainly shouldn’t bother Portland, as the team is 6-3-1 on NBA odds in its last 10 games away from home.
With Roy out of the lineup, Andre Miller picked up the slack in a big way. The guard tied a career-best 31 playoff points. More importantly, Miller carried Portland in a crucial fourth quarter, racking up 15 points. Jerryd Bayless also stepped up his game, contributing 18 points off the bench—including 10 in the fourth quarter.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 22 for Portland while Nicolas Batum added 18. Marcus Camby did what he does best and grabbed 17 rebounds, two shy of his playoff career best.
Phoenix was dominating before the postseason, having won 14 of its last 16 games. The weekend lost to a Brandon Roy-less Blazers team was obviously a letdown, but the Suns remain quite solid against the spread—Phoenix is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games on NBA odds.
The Suns are a hair better at home, too, with a 7-2-1 ATS run at US Airways Center.
Steve Nash did everything he could for Phoenix, racking up team-highs of 25 points and nine assists. The Suns were hurt by the efforts of Amare Stoudemire; the forward played excellent down the regular season stretch, but he managed just 18 points against the Blazers. More is needed—and expected—from Stoudemire moving forward.
Grant Hill was a surprising non-factor. He shot just 2-9 en route to a four-point evening after averaging 11.3 points per game during the regular season.
Blazers vs. Suns Free NBA Playoff Pick
Portland gutted its way to victory despite going into battle without its best player. That won’t happen again, at least not on Phoenix’s turf. Nash simply won’t allow it. Look for the Suns to run wild in Game 2 and bet on Phoenix.
