Why are the Bulls having such a tough team getting rid of the Indian Pacers?

Chicago takes a 3-1 lead into Game 5 tonight in Chicago, in what by all intents and purposes has been a much closer matchup than anyone figured. Indianapolis’ three losses (in Game 1-2-3) were by a total of 14 points, and if the Pacers hadn’t coughed up blood in the late stages of the first game, this series would be 2-2 and very interesting with Derrick Rose’s ankle a questionmark.

Part of the problem is that the Bulls seem to have forgotten how to shoot 3-pointers. Chicago is only 31 percent from beyond the arc, which shows that Indiana is a better perimeter defensive team than anyone had given them credit for.

And the Pacers flat-out play hard. Down 3-0 after three tough losses, they could have packed it in and started summer vacation early. Instead, they sucked it up at home, shrugged off a few tough losses and held off a Bull run down the stretch in Game 4. They may have prolonged their season for only one game, but that could at least give a young team something to build on for 2011-12. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

So much of Game 5 (and maybe 6) depends on the status of Rose’s tender left ankle. Rose says he’ll play, his teammates say he’ll play and the Pacers certainly expect him to be out there. But since much of Rose’s offensive game depends on his explosiveness, no one knows what to expect. [New York’s Amar’e Stoudemire also said he was good to go in Game 3 against Boston, then put up seven points and the Knicks were a minus-34 in the 32 minutes he played.]

NBA Trends:

IND are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 Tue. games.
Under is 9-4 in IND last 13 road games.
CHI are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games.
CHI are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 Tue. games.
Under is 10-4 in CHI last 14 Tue. games.
IND are 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Chicago.

BEST BET: The Pacers are one Game 3 free throw away from four straight covers in the series as bettors continue to overvalue a Bulls team that right now is not double-digits better than Indiana is. Rose will be monitored closely, which may reduce his minutes and allow Indiana to keep it close.

Pacers plus the points here, and if you don’t like that play, take a good long look at the under.

Both teams have an interest in keeping things from going wild.
