Nevertheless, they are eight-point favorites to win game two of the best-of-seven series when they host Golden State at the Staples Center on Monday.

The Warriors beat No. 3 seed Denver in the first round last season after losing Game 1 on the road, and by beating Los Angeles on Saturday, have taken away the Clippers home court advantage.

However, the win was not great surprise, as Golden State arrive in LA as a tough team to beat not only at home, but on the road as well. This season, the Warriors matched a franchise record with 24 road wins and was not unsettled by the crowd at the Satples Center in the first-round opener.

They did however commit 23 turnovers and wasted an 11-point fourth-quarter lead. But the Clippers couldn’t execute down the stretch and were held scoreless over the final 1:30.

The Clippers harassed Stephen Curry the entire game, but he did finish with 14 points, while Klay Thompson went for 22 points.

The Warriors were patient and made the big plays when they needed to, and despite being without center Andrew Bogut, still managed a 48-42 advantage on the glass as power forward David Lee grabbed 13 boards.

Meanwhile, the Clippers’ Chris Paul committed a turnover and missed two free throws in the waning minutes of game one, as Golden State claimed a 109-105 victory.

Blake Griffin tallied just 16 points in only 19 minutes before fouling out in the final minute, in a game that saw 51 total fouls. Center DeAndre Jordan collected 14 rebounds and five blocks in game one, which showed the plenty of the animosity between the two Pacific Division rivals.

Trends:

  • GS are 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 Mon. games.
  • Under is 9-4-1 in LAC last 14 home games.
  • Over is 13-6-1 in LAC last 20 Mon. games.
  • Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
  • Home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

Matt’s Prediction:

Game two will be another hard fought battle, and the Clippers will need to attempt to clean up their mistakes, in order keep the Warriors from gaining a commanding lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference series

Los Angeles managed to contain Curry in game one, but can they do it again?

Both teams were in foul trouble most of the game, and if the Clippers can avoid repeating that, and if Griffin can keep from getting outplayed by Lee, I expect Los Angeles to bounce back with a win here.

NOTES:

  1. Clippers C DeAndre Jordan collected 14 rebounds and five blocks in Game 1.
  2. Golden State beat No. 3 seed Denver in the first round last season after losing Game 1 on the road.
  3. Los Angeles has dropped five straight postseason games.

Clippers 104, Warriors 100
