While Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have stepped up, the team is still trying to work out some chemistry issues as they get ready to take on Al Horford and the Atlanta Hawks.

Miami

Consistency is the key word that the Heat need to focus on in the coming games.  One night, they travel to Dallas as 9 point underdogs and beat them outright.  Three nights later at home, the Heat couldn’t buy a basket down the stretch as they fell to in conference rival Indiana by 6.

Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh have been the only two players head coach Erik Spoelstra has been able to count on this season. Wade (19.8 PPG) and Bosh (21.8 PPG) continue to carry the load on the offensive side of the basketball for Miami.

Deng has shown signs of stepping in to help the offense, but struggled mightily against Pacers, shooting only 2 of 10 from the field.

The key number for the Heat this season has been 100.  In all five wins this season, the Heat have surpassed the 100 point mark.  In their three losses, they have average below 85 points.  The inconsistency comes from somebody stepping up when Bosh is off his game.

In wins this year, Bosh is averaging over 24 points a game while averaging only 17 points in losses.

For the Heat to get back on track tonight, they’ll need Shawne Williams to step up on the defensive end and shut down Hawks PF Paul Millsap, who is averaging 16.6 points per game.

Atlanta

The Hawks will look to dominate the paint tonight with Paul Millsap and Al Horford, as they could be without perimeter shooters DeMarre Carroll (groin injury) and Mike Scott (back injury).  Carroll, who is averaging 12 points per game, is listed as out for tonight.

However, Scott, averaging 9.7 points per game, is listed as questionable.

If both miss tonight, look for Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague to step up.  Korver (16.7 PPG) is shooting 40.7 percent from three point line so far.  He came up big for Atlanta last game in their 100-97 win over the Jazz as he recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Teague also added 17 points in Wednesday’s victory, which is right above his season average (16.3 PPG).

Atlanta is looking to improve to 4-0 at home this season, where they are averaging 101.7 points and only allowing 95.0 points a game.  The Hawks are in the midst of playing their best basketball of the season.

They’ve won three in a row after starting the season at 1-3.

NBA Basketball Handicapping Trends:

  • Heat are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games.
  • Heat are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Hawks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
  • Heat are 7-2 ATS in last 9 meetings in Atlanta.

4* FREE NBA Pick: Miami +4.5

While Atlanta is playing undefeated basketball in Philips Arena, Miami has a very good chance to end that.  Look for Wade and Bosh to get some help from Luol Deng, who has shown flashes of brightness at times this season.

Miami 101, Atlanta 97
