Last time these two squared off, the at the time, struggling Pistons went into Cleveland and blew out the Cavs 103-80. The embarrassing loss sent the Cavaliers into a skid that took them almost two weeks to recover from. However, the Pistons are playing some good basketball coming into this contest.

Cleveland

It’s safe to say, the Cavaliers are finally one of the most feared teams in the NBA. Clicking in just about every category, the Cavs handled another opponent on Sunday. This time, they took out Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Cleveland is getting the job done both on the offensive end and defensive.

The presence of Timofey Mozgov and J.R. Smith have turned the fortunes of the Cleveland Cavaliers around. While Mozgov didn’t have his best game on Sunday, just his 7 foot body being there helped the Cavaliers control the paint and slow down Serge Ibaka. On the other hand, Smith continues to shoot and score. Smith dropped in 14 points and grabbed 2 rebound in the victory.

The Cavaliers also welcomed in Iman Shumpert and his defensive impact has made a valuable difference. Shumpert slowed down the Thunder guards and did not allow them to get in any sort of rhythm. When the Cavaliers acquired Shumpert, they knew he wouldn’t be much of a scoring threat, but his defensive pressure would be exactly what they needed.

As a team now, the Cavaliers are allowing 100.0 points (17th). That number is high due to the lack of defensive stops early in the season. Their points allowed had reach into the mid 100s early in the season.

Cleveland takes to the road with a 10-11 record. If they can improve on that, they’ll be a top team in the East in no time.

Detroit

The Pistons come in off a hard fought loss at the hands of the Toronto Raptors 114-110. While the loss was their 3rd in 4 games, they still continue to play some solid basketball and are now in the playoff hunt. They enter a tough 3 game stretch with the two home games against Cleveland and Houston. Sandwiched in between those two is a road matchup with Philadelphia.

Detroit needs to endure a good upcoming stretch as they look to carry the momentum they’ve gained into the all star break. If they allow this small losing streak to snowball, all their hard work could be gone quickly.

The task won’t be easy on Tuesday or for the rest of the season for that matter as scorer Brandon Jennings is out. Jennings raptured his achilles on Saturday and was announced out for the season on Sunday. Jennings was scoring 15.4 points and dishing out almost 7 assists a game.

Replacing him will be D.J. Augustin. Augustin gave the Pistons some hope with his performance on Sunday when he scored 35 points in the loss.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Cavaliers are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
  • Cavaliers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest.
  • Pistons are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
  • Pistons are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games overall.

Free 4* NBA Basketball Pick: Cleveland -8

Although Cleveland’s road play has been sketchy, they’re still in the midst of a dominating stretch.

Cleveland 110, Detroit 93

With Jennings out and the Cavaliers still upset about the last time these two teams met, expect a lopsided outcome in favor of Cleveland here.
