The Mavs are pretty good and the Knicks pretty bad. No other way to tell that story.
New York
The Knicks are unlikely to challenge the likes of Philadelphia for the worst record in the league but this is a team in disarray.

There are some decent looking parts but not enough and the parts they do have don’t seem to go together all that well.
They are bad but I guess they are a pleasant surprise defensively where they rank in the top half of the league in points allowed.
Not bad considering the 86ed Tyson Chandler in the offseason and only one player in the rotation has a defensive reputation – Iman Shumpert.

New York’s chances were limited on Wednesday but with Carmelo Anthony they take an even bigger hit.
Anthony may have his detractors but he is one of the best scorers in the league and New York is not exactly flush with replacement.
One hope could be that J.R. Smith has one of his lights out games.
He could be due given his production has been pretty lame for more than a week. His shooting can keep them in it sometimes.
Dallas
The Mavs are the top scoring team in the league averaging 109ppg.
However, they come into this one having lost their last two games, the latest a surprising home loss to Indiana in which they were favoured by 11 points. The other night they dropped 140 points on the Lakers and I think we could see something very similar in this one.
With Carmelo out they could easily just try and run the Knicks right out of the gym without even thinking about playing defense. Expect a lopsided result.
The Mavs have been really spreading the minutes around early.

So far Dirk has not even been averaging 30mpg which is why his scoring is at just 19ppg. All the percentages look good so I am assuming they are just trying to manage him for the long haul. Not just him as the Mavs have 9 players averaging more than 16mpg.
If this works this team could be fresher when it matters at the end of the year.
