With no LeBron this does not have the same juice as the rivalry built during the Finals.

Should be an easy win for San Antonio.

Miami

The Heat are having a down year and are in a bad spot right now with just one win in their last 5 games.

Hassan Whiteside seems to get better with each passing day but with Dwyane Wade out of the lineup there is just not enough in the lineup to play more consistent basketball and Friday’s opponent is the absolute worst for a team that cannot commit to and execute a game plan.

It does not look like the Heat are going to break their two game losing streak including losing at Minnesota.

I feel like I am running out of platitudes for Whiteside but you can’t ignore him after he had his best game yet with 24 points and 20 rebounds against Minnesota – is it too late to put him on the All-Star team.

He will have to handle the smarts and size of San Antonio in this one. He will also need Chris Bosh to step up and provide him a little space to operate.

It is funny that is not the other way around.

San Antonio

I have a hard time believing that San Antonio is the fourth best team in any division but that is what we are seeing so far this season.

They have sort of been lying in the weeds so to speak but I think they might be ready to strike. They have won 8 of their last 10 and are most healthy though it looks like Tiago Splitter is going to miss this one due to illness.

Though not a critical piece he is part of the regular rotation and his absence could be an issue with the Heat having productive bigs.

SF Kawhi Leonard is still catching up thanks to an injury to start the season but his numbers are ahead of what we have seen from his first couple of years in the league.

Against Miami he should be a big factor because they don’t really have wing defenders that can handle him. Mainstays Tim Duncan and Tony Parker are just as productive as ever.

Just don’t get too caught up in their per game averages.

They don’t log heavy minutes.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 5-0 in Heat last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
  • Under is 5-0 in Heat last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
  • Under is 7-1 in Heat last 8 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win.
  • Spurs are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss.
  • Under is 4-0 in Spurs last 4 after scoring 100 points or more in their previous game.
  • Heat are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings.
  • Heat are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in San Antonio.
  • Under is 28-12 in the last 40 meetings.

4* NBA Prediction:  San Antonio -10

The active Whiteside might be too much for the Spurs to handle but they will control the game otherwise.

NBA Score prediction:  San Antonio 97 – Miami 85

I don’t like those 10 points a ton but they can cover this number.
