Detroit and Chicago are 2-4 and 5-2, respectively. Both teams are looking for a win coming off losses this weekend.

Detroit

The Detroit Pistons have gotten off to a rocky start. This shouldn’t be too surprising considering the rough season they had last year, but the hope was that a new head coach and a year with Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings on board would make a bigger difference.

So far this season, the Pistons are averaging 91.2 points per game. That number is only good enough for 29th in the NBA, which is symbolic of their anemic offense.

Where the Pistons are excelling is on the defensive side of the floor. The team is allowing just 95.6 points per contest, which is good enough for seventh in the league.

Unfortunately, that number has more to do with the fact that the run the second-slowest pace in the NBA, as their defensive efficiency is just 18th leaguewide.

Chicago

The Chicago Bulls are hoping for a Derrick Rose return on Monday night. He’s missed a slew of early-season games with an ankle injury, and the team is ready to get its star back as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, the Bulls are unsure of Rose’s status at this juncture.

The good news is that Chicago is being cautious with the point guard instead of rushing him back too soon. Even better is that the team is still succeeding, and it’s doing it on the offensive end.

So far this season, Chicago is averaging 104.3 points per contest. That number is good enough for seventh in the NBA, and the team is third in terms of offensive efficiency.

Defensively, this team doesn’t look as dominant as it’s been in the past, but against a struggling Pistons offense, that shouldn’t be a concern.

Chicago is allowing 99.4 points per game, which is good enough for 15th leaguewide.

NBA Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 12-3 in DET last 15 Mon. games.
  • DET are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 vs. NBA Central.
  • Over is 9-3 in DET last 12 vs. Eastern Conference.
  • Over is 7-2 in CHI last 9 home games.
  • Over is 11-4-1 in CHI last 16 overall.
  • Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago.

4* NBA Prediction: Chicago -11.5

The spread is high here, but the numbers don’t lie: The Bulls’ third-ranked offensive efficiency should have a field day against the Pistons’ second-worst ranked defensive efficiency.

Despite the status of Rose being up in the air, Detroit will struggle to contain the Bulls’ high-powered offense. Look for Chicago to take this one straight up at home, and don’t be shocked if it’s in blowout fashion from the onset of the competition.
