With the Toronto Raptors visiting Golden State and Atlanta in Utah there is a very good chance that the Hawks have the best record in the Eastern Conference when they go to bed tonight.

That is a pretty surprising turn of event for a franchise that has been mired in mediocrity for a very long time.
Just how they are doing it is a bit of a mystery but they have won 7 of 8 heading into this one, the first of three on the road that will challenge their mettle. They have to get this one.
The Hawks are one of the most balanced teams in the league will all 5 starters averaging between 11 and 17 points.
This is a good shooting team but I wonder if they are not set up well for success in the playoffs as they lack someone who can get buckets when everyone in the gym knows they need one.

Atlanta has good depth with their second unit and that has been a significant factor in their success.
Utah
The Jazz are on their best run of the season as they have won 5 of their last 7, including an impressive win at Memphis.
I am not sold on this recent success being an indicator of things to come as the “talent” on this team is pretty light.
The most encouraging sign is that PG Trey Burke is coming off a season high 26 points in their last win. His shooting has been woeful this season and he will never be a pass first guy so they need him to be a more efficient scorer.
Unlike Atlanta the Jazz get next to nothing from their bench.
Before looking at a boxscore I had never even heard of the likes of Joe Ingles or Patrick Christopher and top pick Dante Exum has certainly not taken the league by storm the way they had hoped.

Their starting unit is decent but the Jazz just get pounded when their reserves are in the game. You can expect that again tonight.
