Did someone expect the Bucks to collapse without Michael Redd and Andrew Bogut in the lineup? Yeah, maybe I did. Instead, this team is holding its own, scoring slightly more than 122 ppg over its last four, and remaining in contention for that eighth and final playoff spot, which could go their way if somebody like New Jersey trades Vince Carter or if Chicago or New York or Charlotte make the requisite improvements to overtake them. In fact, Milwaukee in sitting in the eighth playoff position right now,

It isn’t just people like Richard Jefferson (25 points against Houston, then 32 against Indiana in last two) or Charles Villanueva, who’s averaged 23.5 ppg over his last dozen contests. There is also Ramon Sessions, who had 44 points and 12 assists the last time these teams met, and 15 points and 17 assists against Indiana last time out. Sessions, who was a second round pick by Miami in ’07, has been a pleasant surprise, to say the least.

The Bucks are playing high-octane offense, and Detroit isn’t the kind of defensive team that can play “lockdown” as they have often done in the past. This Pistons edition appears very disjointed at times, and certainly didn’t go into the All-Star break with a head of steam, losing five of its last seven and coming up with only one covering effort in that time. Also, the Pistons haven’t covered a game in their last seven at the Palace, which is a sign of trouble for sure.

Detroit has swept all three meetings with the Bucks this year, including a 107-97 win in Auburn Hills in November, where Jason Maxiell had six blocked shots. But the respective fortunes are a bit different now. We’ll take the points with Milwaukee, the seven-point underdog in the BetUS NBA odds.
