NBA Betting – 76ers vs. Jazz (Dec. 29)

Free pick and preview plus NBA betting odds and basketball lines for the matchup featuring the Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz…

NBA Betting Analysis 76ers @ Jazz

The Philadelphia 76ers (12-17 SU, 12-17 ATS, 10-17-2 O/U) have dropped three straight games in the BetUS Sportsbook and have continued their season-long struggles without injured power forward Elton Brand. The Utah Jazz (18-14 SU, 18-14 ATS, 14-17-1 O/U) haven’t been playing much better as they have lost three of four coming into tonight’s showdown with Philly at Energy Solutions Arena.

The 76ers blew a fourth quarter lead in their 105-101 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday, but managed to put money in BetUS NBA betting enthusiasts’ pockets by covering the spread as a 7-point road underdog.

The Sixers were widely expected to be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference this season after signing Brand, a perennial all-star to a five-year, $82 million dollar deal, but have failed to develop any chemistry whatsoever as the team adjusted to Brand.

Brand’s 15.9-point per game average is down nearly five points per game from his career average and Brand has missed the 76ers’ last four games with a dislocated right shoulder.

“We had some good moments, we played hard and executed on both ends,” said forward Andre Iguodala, who led the Sixers with 24 points. “Guys came in and did their job, but there were a few mental mistakes at the end that we have to correct. … We played good enough to win, we just didn’t win.”

The Jazz were defeated 120-115 in double overtime by the Houston Rockets on Saturday but managed to cover the spread as 9-point road underdogs in the BetUS Sportsbook.

Shooting guard Ronnie Brewer scored a team-high 23 points while veteran forward Andrei Kirilenko had 20 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double in the loss.

The Jazz are without its own starting power forward in all-star Carlos Boozer who hasn’t played since Nov. 19 because of a strained left quadriceps. Boozer’s gifted backup and future Jazz starter, Paul Millsap, who recorded 15 straight double-doubles stretching over nearly one month, has missed the past two games with a sprained knee ligament. Millsap will miss at least another week.

Even with a short-handed lineup, the Jazz battled back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to send the game to overtime, losing 120-115 after two extra sessions.

“We came back in the second half, but couldn’t finish the game,” said Andrei Kirilenko, who scored 20. “Our defense was good and forced Houston to shoot more jump shots in the second half.”

NBA Odds

Philadelphia 76ers +6½ -110
Utah Jazz -6½ -110

Over 192 -110
Under 192 -110

Analysis: While the Utah Jazz clearly aren’t playing their best basketball, I like them to handle Philadelphia at home tonight. The Jazz still have plenty of experienced and gifted veteran players that know how to get the job done while Philadelphia is mostly young and misguided.
