2015 NBA Draft Handicapping Odds: Future NBA Props & Lines

NBA Drafting By Chance?

The 2015 NBA Draft is nearly upon us, and while the first few picks are considered a consensus among most mock drafts, there is certainly a possible for a shakeup with one week remaining.

The biggest wildcard in the group is Kristapas Porzingis. The professional Latvian hoopster is reportedly being considered by teams as high as the Los Angeles Lakers with the second-overall selection.

Here’s a look at which players have the greatest odds of going No. 1 overall, and which players we will believe will fall into which positions with the top five in mind.

Karl-Anthony Towns (-600)

Karl-Anthony Towns is the easy choice for No. 1 this season. Although the Minnesota Timberwolves have publicly expressed interest in Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, KAT has shown an ability to defend the paint, score down low and stretch his offensive arsenal both during his time in college and his pre-draft workouts.

Anthony Towns is the most complete product in this year’s draft. The only things getting in the way of Minnesota committing to him ahead of time is a love for Okafor, as well as the notion of trading Ricky Rubio and opening up a spot for D’Angelo Russell with the first-overall pick.

Jahlil Okafor (+300)

As stated above, T-Wolves management has an interest in Okafor. And why not? The big man has great footwork for a young NBA center.

The problem is that his defense is a problem at this point in his career, and his above-the-rim game is unimpressive.

Look for the Wolves to pass on Okafor in favor of Anthony Towns. Okafor belongs to the Los Angeles Lakers — a team that couldn’t be more thrilled to draft a player who has only spoken about how wonderful it will be to play in L.A. as a prospect next season.

D’Angelo Russell (+1500)

D’Angelo Russell skipped his initial workout with the Philadelphia 76ers. That scared a lot of fans in Philly.

As it turned out, the point guard from Ohio State was feeling ill, which means the Sixers are absolutely in play for the young floor general.

The concern with Russell is whether or not a guard of his caliber will be able to create his own shot —  a necessity for a team in flux without a go-to scoring option.

Also in play is Kristapas Porzingis. The Sixers are the pick that will determine the latter half of the lottery. Watch for this selection to play a part in every other selection between here and No. 14.
